While this year's theme, The Garden of Time, would've been a lovely excuse to make one's fairytale dreams come true, Zendaya—a co-chair at this year's Met Gala—chose to enter the dark side instead. And naturally, in true Zendaya fashion, it had to be chic or nothing.
Zendaya's First Look
Ascending the steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing Maison Margiela by John Galliano, Zendaya's beige carpet appearance was the stuff of dreams—or should we say beautiful nightmares? The 27-year-old singer, channeling sultry villainess energy, was clad in a bias-cut dress in sage-hued lamè and iridescent organza, worn over a duchess satin corset. Her headpiece, a hand-painted veil accented with a plume with a hat wrapped in stockings made by Stephen Jones, punctuated her otherworldly look. Rounding things off were custom-made Tabi pumps, created by Christian Louboutin for Maison Margiela.
The Challengers actress' beauty look by the legendary Pat Mcgrath was just as dramatic, opting for '90s-style skinny eyebrows, smokey eyes, and a bold maroon lip.
Zendaya's Second Look
If you think she's done, oh, make no mistake: Zendaya was only getting started. For her second look, the showstopper debuted another John Galliano masterpiece—a 1996 archival piece from the designer's Givenchy era. The black corseted gown features a lace-up bodice, an off-the-shoulder neckline, and long puffy sleeves. Her statement-making fascinator, designed by Philip Tracy for Alexander McQueen's 2006 collection, had an entire bouquet of flowers as her outfit's pièce de résistance.
Overall, her stylist, Law Roach, was asked to describe Zendaya's Met Gala looks in one word. "Referential," he reportedly told Style Not Com.
