With the release of her new movie Challengers, Hollywood darling Zendaya is making a big statement—literally! Both on and off-screen, the actress has created buzz for rocking a seemingly simple gray shirt that had quite a pointed message up-front. As it turns out, there's a pretty interesting backstory behind the tee.

In the romantic drama, Zendaya portrays Tashi Duncan, a retired tennis player caught in between a love triangle. In one of the film's sequences, she can be seen donning a loose-fitting t-shirt that reads "I told ya" in black text.
Not to be mistaken for just another statement shirt, the piece was actually designed and made by Loewe's creative director Jonathan Anderson. The Irish designer was in charge of many of the film's sporty-chic looks, drawing inspiration from preppy "old money" aesthetics. Zendaya was spotted wearing the tee around New York City upon the movie's premiere.
In an interview, Jonathan explains that the piece gets inspiration from an actual shirt worn by John F. Kennedy Jr. in the '90s. The former first son was known to be an athlete in his own right, making him a quintessential peg for Challengers' vintage styling.
Zendaya, in collaboration with her faithful stylist Law Roach, has kept close relations with Jonathan for her press looks. In one event, she was spotted rocking a pair of custom Loewe shoes that had bright green tennis balls at the bottom of the heels.
