On Thursday, April 4th, Yong Studio–designer Yong Davalos' namesake brand–unveiled its latest summer collection, "La Perouse." Taking cues from "nautical vibes" and life out at sea, the new line of resort wear is a culmination of Yong's definitive approach to fashion–one that merges sustainability with chic feminine style.
Peplums, smocked bodices, ruched accents, and tiered detailing were key elements of the collection, showcased in a wide selection of free-flowing skirts, dresses, and flattering tops.
In a quick chat with Preview, Yong sets the tone for her collection by stating, "Summer is a must in the Philippines." And true enough, her latest designs feature intricate detailing and vibrant motifs that exude a sense of warmth and liveliness, synonymous with the season in the Philippines. "I'm inspired by the sea, by the ocean, so the theme is kind of nautical, but infused with Filipino sensibilities," she adds.
But perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of the collection lies in the brand's commitment to sustainable and eco-conscious production practices. For this collection, Yong revealed that 95 percent of the materials were sourced from deadstock. "We don't order [fabric] para lang when you create a design, diba. With us [at Yong Studio], we work on what we already have," she shared.
