Xtina Superstar attends this year’s Preview Ball in a look that serves as a memento of her and Martin Bautista’s decade-long relationship as muse and maker.

On the nude carpet, the Preview Best Dressed 2024 honoree dons a “soft, flowy, and sexy” sheer frock, adhering to the affair’s skin tone color palette. Xtina attests that such an ensemble is representative of the Best Filipino Fashion Designer’s ethos. Martin tells Preview that the look pulled inspiration from vintage works of legendary American designer Halston. “It’s ‘madame eleganza,’” he shares, “but still very quiet, not screaming.”
The chocolate-hued frock is actually a recreation of sorts of Xtina’s dress when she attended the Preview Best Dressed Ball all the way back in 2013. Around that time, the DJ and veteran model’s collaborations with Martin were still at their early stages. “Our relationship as a muse and maker started when I would ask him to dress me up for my DJ gigs back then,” she narrates. “When I met Martin, we were both starting out as newbies in our respective careers.”
Martin adds that their shared interests in Christina Aguilera, makeup, pop culture, and reality shows were integral to developing their relationship. “Back then, we loved looking at expensive clothes we couldn’t afford,” he quips. He goes on, sharing that they also share the same taste when it comes to fashion, and that he even consults with Xtina regarding his collections.
As Martin receives his award as one of the Best Filipino Fashion Designers at this year’s Ball, Xtina fondly looks back at their decade-long friendship. “We’ve seen each other grow and blossom into what we have become now. I am so proud of him. We’ve always been part of each other’s career milestones,” she states.
“Xtina is a Martin Bautista girl not just because she’s my friend, but because she gets [my style],” Martin expresses, more than proud of the Best Dressed honoree. “She knows how I work and create. She knows what she wants, and knows what will work for her. That's why she always looks so good.”
According to Xtina, the proverbial Martin Bautista girl is characterized by an attitude, and not just a look. As one of his foremost muses, she says that, “A Martin Baustista girl symbolizes beauty and power. She’s a cool girl. Like, you know she’s cool because she’s born to be that girl.”
