There's a reason why Patek Philippe is considered watchmaking royalty. It's no secret that it is a popular timepiece among the elite, including royals themselves. The Maison has made pieces for the likes of Prince Albert, Christian IX and Princess Louise of Denmark, Victor Emmanuel III of Italy, and Egyptian Sultan Hussein Kamel, among others.

Patek Philippe remains one of the finest and sought-after brands in the world because it pioneered complications like the perpetual calendar, split-seconds hand, chronograph, and minute repeater in watches. One of them, the Ref. 5208R, also happens to be the first to be equipped with a chronograph, a minute repeater, and an instantaneous perpetual calendar.

Its low production volume coupled with its Swiss watchmaking principles have allowed it to endure. One of its most recognizable silhouettes, the Patek Philippe 5712, for instance, has long been in the holy grail conversation of collector's watches.

With it came three interpretations, the stainless steel ref. 5712/1A-001, the rose gold 5712R-001, and the white gold 5712G-001. It had been the very first nautilus with a moonphase complication, and would have collectors salivating over it.

Apart from the historical legacy of the watch, the model has been a key driver in welcoming more interest in the Nautilus colection. Patek Philippe has actually discontinued the 5712R and 5712G in leather, adding to its desirability.
