What is Delvaux?
Delvaux is a prestigious Belgian brand founded back in 1829, even before the establishment of the Kingdom of Belgium in 1830. It was created by Charles Delvaux in Brussels and has maintained its status as a leader in luxury leather goods for nearly two centuries, thanks to its exceptional craftsmanship and high-quality products. In 1908, Delvaux recognized the importance of travel and filed its first patents for handbags as it anticipated the needs of women on the move.
The brand earned the title of Purveyor to the Court in 1883, which essentially meant they were official suppliers to the royal family and introduced seasonal collections in 1933 under the leadership of Franz Schwennicke. Needless to say, that's a huge feat!
Most of their creations are infused with Belgian surrealism, offering an unconventional and witty approach to design. Their highly skilled leather artisans turn each handbag into a genuine work of art. Having produced over 3,000 handbag designs since its inception, the brand has created a vast legacy, with each new creation meticulously recorded in the "Livre d'Or," or the Golden Book.
Despite having a rich history of producing masterpieces, the Brillant handbag is by far one of their most iconic. Created in 1958 for the Brussels World Fair, the Brillant bag is one of the brand’s most easily recognizable designs—for those in the know at least. With its characteristic trapezoidal shape, signature metal ‘D’ buckle, single top handle, and flap opening. It’s even made its way into the wardrobes of local celebrities.
