This aesthetic will convince you to embrace your feminine side!

Throughout the years, several hyperfeminine trends and aesthetics were revived—from the unapologetically pink Barbiecore trend to the butterfly tops and low-rise skinny jeans of Y2K. These aesthetics have allowed women to take back and embrace their femininity, and use it to empower themselves. Well, another hyperfeminine aesthetic is on the rise on social media: the coquette aesthetic, and we’re all for it.

What is the coquette aesthetic?

Coquette is defined as "a woman who flirts." So it comes to no surprise that the coquette aesthetic is all about that soft, dainty, and idyllic look. It draws inspiration from several time periods, from the regency era (think Netflix's Bridgerton) upto the early 2000s. It’s what makes the trend so versatile and easy to recreate.

The aesthetic has some similarities to the “lolita” and "nymphet" aesthetics. But unlike these two trends, the coquette aesthetic is more of an indulgence in femininity than a sexualization of innocence. Coquette allows you to shamelessly embrace your "girly" side. It sends the message that it's okay to love things soft and dainty, and still be an empowered woman.

Pastels and candy colors are often the shades seen in a coquette wardrobe. Mini skirts, corsets, platform shoes, and lace and silk fabric are some of the key elements when it comes to dressing coquette. Dainty accessories such as ribbons, pearls, sunnies, or pendant necklaces are also a necessity. And to top off the whole aesthetic, an angelic barely-there makeup look that matches the softness of the ‘fit.

The coquette aesthetic is both a fashion trend and a mood. Some may even say it’s a lifestyle. If you search “coquette aesthetic” on Tiktok, Pinterest, or Instagram, you’ll find hundreds of accounts dedicated solely to the aesthetic. Did you know? There’s even an entire virtual coquette community that shares different hair, makeup, outfit, and lifestyle videos surrounding the aesthetic, and they're oh so romantic.

If you’re planning to try the coquette aesthetic, it won’t be that hard to look for some outfit inspiration. We’ve even spotted some of our favorite local celebrities donning the coquette aesthetic. Below, we share some of our favorite Filipina celebrity coquette looks:

Light pink and white is the most common color combo for coquette outfits. In this OOTD by none other than the chinita princess, Kim Chiu, she wears a matching pink plaid tweed set embellished with pearl buttons and pairs it with white platform heels. To make the look even more coquette, she tied her hair up in a ponytail with a Chanel ribbon. So classy and cute!
