You don't need to know how to dance to pull off this dainty fashion trend.

There's an undeniable allure to ballerinas, with their graceful movements and ethereal beauty. They possess a certain poise, both on and offstage, that can only be attained through years of rigorous training. Thankfully, while we might not all be able to dance like prima ballerinas, we can certainly try to capture their elegance through our fashion choices.

Enter "balletcore," a trend that might just convince you to channel your inner ballerina. With the balletcore aesthetic, it's all about looks that exude grace and poise—even if you've never stepped foot inside a dance studio.

What Is Balletcore?

Ballet has always been a fascinating art form, inspiring not only dance enthusiasts but also artists across various mediums, from the iconic paintings of Edgar Degas to movies like Black Swan (2010) and Don't Worry Darling (2022). Ballet has become synonymous with grace, elegance, and luxury. It represents a world of refined artistry and has long been associated with upper-class sophistication—similar to fashion aesthetics like old money and academia that have also been gaining popularity—so it's no wonder that dressing like a ballerina has become today's irresistible trend.

It’s good to note that injecting balletic flair into fashion is no new thing. Luxury fashion houses have been using the dance form as an influence on their runways long before the term “balletcore” was even invented. But, as we know, trends love to come and go, and thanks to Italian high fashion brand Miu Miu, balletomania is back on the rise—and it’s not just all about the ballet flats, mind you.

A balletcore wardrobe mainly consists of fashion pieces that you’d typically see on a ballerina. Think tulle or satin skirts, bodysuits, corsets, wrap-tops, and cardigans. To complete the look, leg warmers paired with skirts or worn over leggings are a must. And of course, ballet flats are the perfect finishing touch. We've already spotted local celebrities and fashion influencers embracing the balletcore aesthetic. See how they styled the trend ahead!
