Summer is here, and if the scorching heat isn't enough to remind you, it's the prized moments under the balmy skies that will. After all, it is often the season associated with fun and friends, what with school breaks and beach trips filling up social calendars. This is the very essence captured in Univers' latest Summer 2024 campaign.
Univers Unveils Summer 2024 Campaign Featuring Jason Dhakal
Following a dusk-to-dawn narrative, London-based photographer Karl King Aguña delicately captures intimacy and freedom for Univers' Summer 2024 campaign. Styled by designer Roko Arceo, it offers a peek into the small yet all too real moments that lifelong memories are built upon—the in-between slices of life, if you will.
Commemorating the best of the sunny season, the campaign “explores feelings we’re familiar with: the joy of being outside under the sun and the hazy memories of the summer nights," UNIVERS managing director and BoF 500 honoree Jappy Gonzalez explains. "All while wearing nice clothes, of course.”
Tapping Filipino-Nepalese contemporary R&B singer-songwriter Jason Dhakal to front the story-telling campaign, it is the first time the retail house deliberately associated a personality with their marketing materials. “For anyone who knows us, we’d rather clothes speak for themselves, but for this season, it just seems fitting to feature Jason,” Jappy shares.
As an artist who isn't afraid to experiment and be raw, Jason reveals that fashion actually plays a big influence in his music. “Music and fashion go hand-in-hand for me. I get to conceptualize what visual art I see from my own music with the help of fashion,” he says. “It helps me really create a world for a project; from the album shoot, music videos, and even performances.”
The creative synergy is palpable in the final outcome of the shoot produced by Jio Baldesimo, as directed by Jappy. Makeup artist Slo Lopez and hairstylist Mong Amado kept Jason and Ana of Luminary Models looking fresh in a lived-in makeup look, all while wearing the latest pieces from the multi-label concept store's Summer 2024 collection.
