Shortly after the photos went viral, Taecyeon’s agency, 51K, issued a statement to clarify the situation. The company explained that the images were taken last year during his girlfriend’s birthday celebration.
“Those photos were not taken as part of a marriage proposal," they stated in Korean, as translated by entertainment news site Soompi. “The photos, which were taken last year to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday, were unfortunately leaked and spread across online communities," they added.
It was in 2020 when Taecyeon first publicly confirmed his relationship with his current girlfriend. In the statement, the agency further clarified that the couple has no "immediate plans" to tie the knot.
"He is continuing to have a good relationship with his girlfriend, as he always has. While we believe that he may get married someday when the timing is right, there are no immediate plans for marriage at this time," they concluded.
