The five-time Grand Slam winner was found positive for meldonium after taking a drug test at the Australian Open. After admitting to failing the drug test, Maria Sharapova went on to say that she had unknowingly taken meldonium (a banned performance-enhancing substance) for 10 years throughout her career to treat a medical condition.
Soon after the announcement, Nike, Tag Heuer, Porsche and Evian distanced themselves from the Russian tennis player, suspending ties and further deals in favor of monitoring the current situation. One thing's for sure, you have to hand it to Maria for owning up to everything. It takes a real woman to step up and take full responsibility for her actions.
