For anyone who has stumbled upon a Top 40 playlist these days, Sabrina Carpenter is undoubtedly a staple. If April 2024 had us all captioning coffee dates with Espresso lyrics, her recent single Bed Chem has many TikTokers humming about a hypothetical “cute boy with the white jacket”—cue the memes!
Like the pop stars that came before her, the new-gen songstress isn’t a stranger to taking real-life inspo for her bop-worthy tracks. Many internet sleuths and pop girl enthusiasts have traced back the lyrics of Bed Chem to her romance with her actor boyfriend Barry Keoghan, which, according to lines and timelines, may have started with a sheer dress, a white jacket, and a Givenchy Paris Fashion Week show.

Before the Irish Saltburn actor became the potential new muse of Sabrina Carpenter, the two first shared a space—at least in the public’s knowledge—on September 28, 2023, where they attended the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2023 showcase during Paris Fashion Week.
Keeping in line with Sabrina’s predilection for a sultry sartorial taste, the American singer appeared in the guest rows swathed in a black number from the French luxury house, now immortalized in pop music as the “sheer dress” she wore “the day that they met.” The piece, sourced from creative director Matthew Williams’ Pre-Fall 2023 collection, flaunted lines across its sheer silhouette, a dark touch to the singer’s otherwise more colorful palette.

Meanwhile, in another part of the hall was Barry Keoghan, who donned a tie and a sporty white bomber jacket, detailed with a red collar and cuffs from Givenchy’s Spring 2024 menswear collection.

Although the two stars were not photographed together, many have supposed that this was the first time the future couple met, which reportedly progressed over the next few months, with the pair spotted together on different occasions.
The track Bed Chem seemingly chronicles this, but fuel was added when Barry, on his Instagram Stories, shared that the song was his “fave” from Sabrina’s album Short N’ Sweet.

Having a slice of a new-gen pop history moment isn’t quite far-fetched, either. Givenchy’s white 1952 pull-over bomber jacket, worn by Barry on that fateful day, is available as part of the label’s men’s ready-to-wear collection, featuring synthetic fiber and snazzy embroidery bearing the house name.
