By now, the entire world has caught the Barbie fever. The Greta Gerwig-helmed film broke box office records as it became the first movie directed by a woman to ever earn over $1 billion in sales. A major contributor to this success, besides its incredible visuals and timely message, is its stellar ensemble cast.
Where there is Barbie, there is also a Ken by her side. Hollywood A-lister Ryan Gosling was tapped to bring the blonde boy to life with his comedic sensibilities and natural charm.
A pinaccle scene in the film—no spoilers here, promise!—had Ryan wearing not one, but three luxury watches along with a mink coat. LVMH heir and TAG Heuer CEO Frederic Arnault shared that they were given the task of blinging up our beloved Ken with exquisite gold timepieces.
Given that Ryan is an ambassador of the watch brand, it made sense for him to wear their pieces in what is arguably a fashion-forward movie. "One day we received a call asking to send ALL the gold watches that we have in our collection," Frederic narrated in an Instagram post, adding that they decided to send three of their most iconic designs from past collections.
The first was a classic all-gold Carrera that featured a 18-karat Milanese gold strap. According to accredited reseller site Collector's Square, a watch of this caliber can resell for at least $257,243, which is almost a whopping 15 million pesos! (Fun fact: It's the all-time fave of Jack Heuer, TAG Heuer's former CEO and grandson of its founder.
Another Carrera was stacked on Ken's wrist, this time with a more familiar interlocked strap. If you pay attention to the sunray dial, it features a wavy pattern known as Côte de Genève. Collector's Square had a piece like this listed for $22,000, or approximately P1.3 million.
Last up on Ken's accessory lineup was a 2448 NT Carrera, which features a solid black face with black leather strap and gold hardware. It's inspired by a 1963 model. The estimated price? $34,299, or somewhere around P2 million.
Well, as they say, time is gold, and Ken's collection certainly took it the heart!
