“Quiet luxury” has tiptoed its way as the loudest buzzword in fashion. While the fictional world touts it as the go-to style of the one percent (Hello, Succession!), real-life billionaires can offer a bit more range than their TV counterparts. From dark suit uniforms to eccentric sartorial choices, here’s what the richest people in the world actually wear.

1. Bernard Arnault

Like how most would envision the world’s richest person to dress, LVMH’s Bernard Arnault is frequently spotted in his standard uniform of a dark suit, white shirt, and a dark tie. To show off his relaxed side, he opts to take off his tie or remove his jacket, if it were an occasion like a tennis match.

But given the fact that he owns the largest luxury conglomerate in the world–encompassing brands like Louis Vuitton, Dior, Tiffany & Co., Fendi and 70+ big names in fashion–the French magnate’s sartorial choices are also keen to finer side of life. Bernard has been decked out in suits from Dior, while his shoes are often courtesy of Berluti, an LVMH brand specializing in Venetian leather.

According to reports, his sons Antoine, Frédéric, Jean and Alexandre also conform to the signature style of dark suit ensembles, with the occasional sneaker appearance for the more relaxed affair.

2. Elon Musk

Net worth: $162 billion

If Bernard Arnault flaunted the traditional type of head honcho, Elon Musk is the face of the casual-dressing billionaire. While the CEO of SpaceX and the latest head of Twitter has publicly professed his love for fashion, Elon has been seen touting more relaxed looks with olive green T-shirts and jeans during the World Cup Final in Qatar.

But that’s not to say that he hadn’t had his shining, sartorial moments. In 2018, designer and artist Emily Dawn Long styled the billionaire at the 2018 Met Gala and several appearances, going for a more “ruggedly masculine” look that echoed 20th-century explorers, including a vintage leather pilot’s jacket and engineer boots.

3. Jeff Bezos

Net worth: $127 billion

The Amazon giant is known to experiment more with his fashion choices than his contemporaries on the wealthiest list. Not content with a uniform, Jeff Bezos has paired bright blue flight suits with cowboy hats and bootsOther than suits on formal occasions, the billionaire can often go for a “wilder” route on casual days, including loud patterns on shirts, coupled with white jeans from ultra-rich fashion favorite Brunello Cucinelli.

4. Bill Gates

Net worth: $124 billion

Recognized for his more “friendly uncle” look, Microsoft’s Bill Gates is usually dressed in the no-nonsense standard of button-down shirts and trousers. In a lot of cases, he throws in a cozy sweater almost synonymous with his wardrobe, dubbed as a “signature calling card” for the billionaire, echoing wholesome and trustworthy energy.

In a 2016 Reddit Ask Me Anything, the tycoon stated that he didn’t like “spending a lot of money on clothes or jewelry,” and even confessed that he wears a $10 wristwatch, which is approximately P550.

5. Warren Buffett

Net worth:  $113 billion

The Berkshire Hathaway CEO takes a page from the Bill Gates school of fashion, as Warren Buffett is also recognized for his simpler and low-key style. Once stating that he’s “happy in a pair of khakis and a sweater,” the billionaire said that his formal style rotation only consists of about 20 suits.

While most of the upper crust lean on Italian brands, Warren recruits the Chinese suit-maker Madame Li for his professional ensembles. Among her famous clientele includes Warren’s business partner Charlie Munger and Bill Gates.
