There are several reasons why Ria Atayde has become an object of affection for fans everywhere. Since her career started in 2015, she's proven her impeccable acting chops while celebrating every curve on her body as a fervent champion for body positivity. On top of that, she has an easy-going yet impactful sense of style that exudes her inate self-confidence. This is partly thanks to her stylist, Danae Dipon.
While the two have only been working together for a year or so, Danae already has a grasp of who Ria authentically is and how she can best express that through her looks. In an exclusive interview with Preview, she reveals how she and the actress began their relationship, and how it's been like dressing her up.
Preview Exclusive: Danae Dipon on Being Ria Atayde's Fashion Stylist
Please describe the first time you and Ria met. How did you end up working together?
"One of my best friends from the industry, Charisma Lico, asked me if I could style for a shoot, and it [turned] out that it was for Ria’s 30th birthday. It was on that shoot day that we first met. That day in the dressing room, she was sitting on the glam chair and (of course, after being introduced to each other) she just casually handed me her phone and asked me to order the coffee I wanted from Starbucks. It was the first time we worked together and [we] ended up working together since then."
How would you describe Ria as a client?
"Ria is very trusting as a client, which I love because she’s very open to styles I visualize for her brand."
How has working with Ria impacted your career as a fashion stylist?
"She challenges my creative freedom [without] limiting it. She trusts my work that personally styling her stretches my brain, and I appreciate that because it helps me grow [and learn] as a stylist."
As her fashion stylist, what can you say about her personal style or aesthetic?
"Honestly, Ria is a 'comfort over fashion' girl (Haha too honest, sorry Riri). I would say her style aesthetic is casual and relaxed yet cool and classic. She would always choose [to wear] loafers or sneakers over heels any day, unless work requires her to."
Has your personal relationship developed since you first met? How would you describe Ria as a friend?
"Our personal relationship has developed because [we've become] more comfortable with each other. Ria is not a friend, actually, she’s more of a mom haha! But really, there [isn't] a time that I [leave] her house [without] cookies, pastries, sweets, or something she got from her trips. Ria is a fun, supportive, and thoughtful friend and she cares about the people close to her."
What’s your most unforgettable moment working with Ria so far?
"My most unforgettable moment working with Ria was our first shoot together, which was the shoot for her 30th birthday last year. It was unforgettable because she trusted Cha for recommending me to be her stylist for that shoot.
"I remember our very first ever convo through Viber. She sent a photo of her measurements written on an index card and a photo of her shoes. [The] exchange of messages [went,] 'Thanks for saying yes' and 'Excited to work with you!' even without meeting prior. Then on the shoot day, I had her wear what [was] on my rack and she was very trusting and cool about the 'fits. Even [during our] first time working together, I was fully given creative freedom!"
What’s something interesting about Ria that her fans don’t know yet?
"What’s interesting about Ria that her fans don’t know yet is that she likes doing or making funny faces especially in between takes."
