JBL Philippines has just unveiled one of its most groundbreaking innovations: Meet the Soundgear Frames.
At first glance, these sunglasses seem like an unassuming pair of sunglasses. But lo and behold—the gadget allows you to listen to audio and take calls discreetly. Like your favorite earphones or AirPods. Yes, you read that correctly.
About the JBL Soundgear Frames
The Soundgear Frames feature JBL's state-of-the-art OpenSound Technology. They're sunglasses equipped with speakers, but those around you can hardly hear a thing. Traditionally, earbuds and headphones are designed to cover or plug into your ears to prevent sound leakage and provide an immersive listening experience. However, JBL's OpenSound Technology delivers the same immersive audio without obstructing your ears. This works by directing sound waves toward your ears while dispersing excess sound waves in the opposite direction, minimizing sound leakage.

REVIEW: Trying Out the JBL Soundgear Frames
Functionality
As someone who typically struggles with new gadgets, I found these sunglasses remarkably user-friendly. Pairing them with my iPhone was a breeze— simply download the JBL Headphones app, pair via Bluetooth, and you're ready to go. One of the coolest features is how the device powers on: Just flip open the temples and it automatically starts. Close them, and it shuts down instantly—it's that simple.
Navigating the JBL app was a breeze too. Upon pairing the device, it gives you a brief overview of the sunglasses' battery status and its functions, including the gestures for adjusting volume and playback.

The Soundgear Frames are easy to integrate into your lifestyle, too. It has eight hours worth of playback time, plus it's scratch and water-resistant as well, making it perfect for your on-the-go lifestyle in the city or your next tropical getaway. As someone who frequently travels around the metro, the Soundgear Frames definitely came in handy.

Throughout the week, I had to run multiple errands and sit through hours of Manila traffic. Through it all, these audio sunglasses allowed me to take calls and stream music— hands-free! And even after a full day, the battery didn't run out.
Style Perspective
Merging fashion with technological innovation is a tall order often leading to compromises on either side. However, the JBL Soundgear Frames struck the perfect balance between both.

More than anything, these audio sunglasses are a lifestyle product, meant to complement your daily jaunts. JBL achieves this by crafting the sunglasses' frames with a lightweight and flexible thermoplastic material. In addition, interested buyers can choose between three classic colorways— Onyx (black), Pearl (white), and Amber (brown)—and two universally flattering frame shapes: square and round. Sartorially, this means that these frames will go with any type of outfit and complement any face regardless of which frame shape and color you go for.
How I Styled the JBL Soundgear Frames
Typically, I gravitate towards narrow, rectangular, or rounded frames to suit my oblong-shaped face. However, the square-shaped JBL Soundgear Frames with translucent amber temples pleasantly surprised me. The square frames and the translucent brown finish accentuated my cheekbones, offering a flattering and stylish look.
