Yaofa Dela Cruz is among today's models of the moment. If you're familiar with the local fashion scene, her face is one you’ve undoubtedly seen. Now 26, Yaofa has been making her mark on runways, editorial campaigns, and advertisements since graduating college—and 2024 has truly been her breakthrough year.

Standing tall at 5'10", Yaofa is inarguably a model to watch. In August, she became one of the muses for Preview’s Best Filipino Fashion Designers—specifically for Gabbie Sarenas—effortlessly donning a sheer, floral-embellished dress that showcased Gabbie's signature style. Earlier in May, she also fronted Preview’s "Glossary" beauty editorial.

In this edition of Preview Go-See, we chatted with Yaofa to uncover her journey in the modeling industry, her dream gigs, and the struggles she overcame to get where she is today.
Preview Go-See: Yaofa Dela Cruz
How did you get your start in the modeling industry? Tell us the story of how you got “discovered.”
"I auditioned at a modeling agency when I was still a college student. Luckily, I got accepted, and that was the start of my modeling career. I juggled studying and working as a model at the same time."

How long have you been a model and what do you love the most about it?
"I’ve been a model for almost a decade now. I’ve met a lot of people, and I enjoy what I do. I also get to travel to different places. I’ve found my best friends in the modeling industry."

Would you say being a model is your dream job? Why or why not?
"Yes, it helps me improve and boost my self-confidence. I want to work with the brands, designers, photographers, and other people I look up to in the industry."

What was the biggest struggle you’ve faced in the modeling industry and how did you overcome it?
"The biggest struggle I faced in the modeling industry was dealing with people who were taking advantage of me. I overcame this by learning to say no and setting boundaries for the things I couldn’t do."

What would you say is the most memorable project you’ve done as a model so far?
"A lot! But one of my favorite experiences was my first international fashion show in Japan for Amazon Fashion Week in Tokyo. I’m so thankful to Sir Ben Chan and the Amazon Fashion Week director. I really enjoyed and loved the experience!"
How do you see your career progressing in the future? Do you have a dream modeling gig?
"To be an international model and work with Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid is a dream of mine."

What’s something unique about you that sets you apart from all other models?
"I believe what sets me apart from other models is how I dream of using my platform to inspire and uplift others. I have a deeper purpose that drives my passion and makes my journey in modeling distinct."

What’s your go-to model-off-duty look?
"Crop top, high-waist pants, and white sneakers!"

In your own opinion, what are the characteristics of a great model?
"A great model for me is to be professional, punctual, respectful, and always listen to what the directors advise. It’s also important to be nice to everyone."
What’s your advice to aspiring models?
"The process of becoming a model is not easy. It often involves a lot of hard work, dedication, and resilience. You will attend many castings and go-sees, and you will experience rejections. It’s important to be patient and remember that rejection is part of the process; you must move forward. Keep your goals in mind and continue to work hard."
