In case you missed it: Rabanne has just staked its claim on “the world’s most expensive bag.” During Paris Fashion Week, the Spanish fashion house debuted an 18-carat gold version of its iconic 1969 nano bag—one of the maison's most recognizable bag silhouettes. Known for its chainmail exterior, the signature piece’s design originally features 282 interlinked discs and a sleek metal chain strap.

For its Spring/Summer 2025 ready-to-wear collection, Rabanne teamed up with Arthus-Bertrand, a renowned Parisian jeweler established in 1803, famous for creating heritage, keepsake medallions. This collaboration piece references the legendary 1968 dress Paco Rabanne designed for French singer-songwriter Françoise Hardy—a long-sleeved, boat-neck mini dress made from nine kilograms of gold and embellished with 300 carats of diamonds.

For this special collaboration piece, Arthus-Bertrand reinterpreted the 1969 nano bag by assembling 371 of their signature “Shower of Stars” medallions. According to an Instagram post by the jeweler, Rabanne’s showstopping piece took “no less than 300 hours to create.”

While the bag has yet to appear in Rabanne boutiques, it already carries a price tag of $279,000, or roughly P15.7 million.
