Oversized clothing seems to be the silhouette du jour, and we're totally all for it. Something about pieces that are one or two (or three) sizes "too big" just add a chic, casual touch to your looks. Not to mention, they'll keep you ultra comfy all day long. This is especially evident in style cues we can infer from the streets of Japan, where baggy-on-baggy ensembles reign supreme. Of course, nothing could stop us from putting our own Pinoy twist to the cool, laidback look. To help us achieve such an aesthetic for the goings-on here in the PH is local brand SUOT.
What is SUOT?
In a nutshell, SUOT is Japanese street-style made suitable for the tropical breeze of Metro Manila. If boxy button-up shirts, wide-legged trousers, and bold neutral hues sound like a delectable outfit combo to you, then you have something in common with Karl Guerra, the brand's founder and designer. The name says everything you need to know about them—they craft stylish yet comfortable pieces anyone can wear, regardless of their gender and size. For their tops in particular, you can tell it's from SUOT if it has rounded hems, drop shoulders, and a singular breast pocket.
How did SUOT start?
Karl first got fascinated by fashion when he was in high school. "Listening to both hip-hop and rock [music], as well as watching anime, opened my eyes to different styles. All these influenced how I dressed at the time," he told Preview. When he couldn't find the specific styles of clothing he wanted to wear, he had a tailor make his visions come to life. He shared these 'fits on his Instagram stories, which led to clamor from his friends and followers to release them publicly.
Hence, SUOT was born in 2020. With every collection he puts out, Karl prides himself on "establishing personalized approaches [when] dealing with customers," so one can be assured that the piece they're getting is quality-made with extra attention to detail.
SHOP: Streetwear Pieces from SUOT
While customizing designs is something that's still on the horizon for SUOT, they do have a selection of cargo pants, button-down tops, and tulip-style bucket hats that can readily be shopped. You can get them as a chic coords set by ordering them in the same color, or you can mix and match the hues to your liking. As per Karl, his favorite piece is their patterned vest, which is an optimal layering piece in the summer heat.
