Having come of age on our TikTok for-you pages, Niana Guerrero knows a thing or two about dressing to impress. While we tune into her reels for her slick dance moves, the content creator has also caught viewers' attention with her effortless, laidback style. "Niana-core," as it seems, primarily comprises of oversized tees, a loose pair of jeans, and the coolest sneakers on the market.
After just turning 18 last January 2024 (in a jaw-dropping Michael Cinco frock, no less), Niana looks forward to enriching her fashion sense while still upholding her "playful, comfortable, [and] evolving" sensibilities. In an exclusive interview with Preview, she talks about how her style came to be, and where she hopes to take it moving forward.
Niana Guerrero on Finding Her Personal Style

Hi Niana! In three words, how would you describe your personal style today?
"Playful, comfortable, evolving."
Did you always like dressing up as a kid? How would you describe your relationship with fashion growing up?
"As a kid, I always enjoyed dressing up. My mom actually used to help me choose cute clothes to wear. There was one time I wore shorts on top of [a pair of] purple leggings, and my mom put holes in them as if they were deconstructed. Growing up, fashion was fun, but I never really paid much attention to it until I was about 17 years old."

How did you develop your style before you turned 18? Where did you get inspiration from in terms of how you dress?
"Before I turned 18, my style developed mostly through experimenting and finding what made me feel comfortable and confident. I've gone through many phases in my style, like my 'leggings era' and 'skinny jeans era'—both of which I don't do anymore nowadays. LOL!
"Pinterest truly helped me with my style today. I also get inspired by lots of celebrities. Seeing different trends and figuring out what suited me helped shape my personal style."
Who are your fashion icons? What do you love about their style, and what did you pick up from them?
"My fashion icons are Hailey Bieber, Billie Eilish, Bella Hadid, and Rihanna. Hailey's polished yet casual looks [inspired] me to add timeless and versatile pieces to my wardrobe. Billie’s oversized clothing taught me to prioritize comfort without losing style, and I love how Bella mixes vintage and modern pieces. Rihanna’s fearless fashion inspired me to be more adventurous. They’re all queens!"

How has your passion for dancing influenced your style? Has your career as a TikTok content creator influenced it in any way?
"Dancing has definitely influenced my style a lot. I love wearing comfy clothes like big shirts and sweats when I'm practicing or performing. My dance outfits have become a big part of my everyday fashion because I like to feel comfortable and move easily with style.
"My career as a content creator has also influenced my style. Being on camera a lot made me more aware of how I present myself, and I’ve learned to mix stylish pieces with my dancewear to create looks that are both functional and fashionable."

Now that you've entered your “adulting” years, how do you see your fashion sense developing?
"I would want to experiment more, but [while] still staying true to what I look for in clothes. I like being comfortable and confident in what I wear, but I’m down to trying more elevated pieces and styles that I wouldn’t normally wear when I was younger."
If there was a fashion trend dubbed "Niana-core," what three clothing pieces would comprise it, and why?
"Shoes to dance with, comfy clothes, and great-fitting jeans. And a nice lippie, too, if I may add!"
