"I remember being at the shoot for Nadine Lustre's first Preview cover in 2014, which was approximately a decade ago," Preview Editor-in-Chief Marj Ramos-Clemente shares. "Shooting her again for the March 2024 cover, you can just tell how much she's grown. There's a level of confidence and self-assurance that stems from a place of finally knowing who she is and embracing that."
In this episode of The Making Of, we take a peek at what went down behind the scenes of the minimalist cover shoot that featured Nadine, holding her ground, front and center.

"It's all about minimalism and wabi-sabi, or the philosophy of embracing 'less is more' and simplicity," Creative Director Bacs Arcebal says about the guiding vision for this cover.

"The overall vibe is very zen," he states, describing how images of relaxation were referenced, from Zen Gardens to yoga—of which Nadine is an actual practitioner. "I think it's perfect that Nadine also does yoga, so she really helped a lot with the correct poses and the correct stance."

This minimalism also translated into the shoot's fashion, beauty, and set.

Nadine wore pieces from local fashion designers Prince Padilla of Novel, Rajo Laurel, Martin Bautista, Cheetah Rivera, Antonina, and Bagasao, and accessorized with stunning B.Zero1 jewelry from Bulgari.

"The minimalist approach was intentional in terms of the neutral color palette, the silhouettes, and the overall styling," Marj explains. "As a vegan, Nadine also was very specific about making sure that there's no leather throughout the shoot."

Staying true to Nadine's personality and aesthetic, the makeup was kept light, dewy, and very natural. Her go-to glam team—including makeup artist Jelly Eugenio and hairstylist Paul Nebres—made sure that Nadine looked every bit photo-ready for this cover.

Rocket Sets, under the helm of Migo Alomajan and Rocky Legaspi, transformed their studio into a vast minimalist landscape to set the stage for the shoot.

Lensed by Josh Tolentino, the final photos captured all the small details and the big picture in a harmonious and balanced frame, anchored by Nadine's quiet yet powerful confidence.

An "ASMR meets fashion film" video was also produced to further the narrative behind the cover. Check it out below!
