MSCHF is at it again. Right on the heels of the Big Red Boot and the microscopic Louis Vuitton bag, the viral art collective has something new up their sleeves, or, on their arms: the Global Supply Chain Telephone Bag, a handbag that combines some of the most iconic elements from Balenciaga, Celine, Dior, and Hermès.
What Is MSCHF's Global Supply Chain Telephone Bag?
Simply put, MSCHF’s Global Supply Chain Telephone Bag is a medley of fashion’s “canonical” bags incorporated into one. Among the elements in the art piece include Balenciaga Hourglass’ curves, the Celine Luggage’s handles, the Dior Saddle’s asymmetry, and the Hermès Birkin’s iconic flap. Rendered in leather in shades of black, pink, blue, and bright orange, the 27-cm bag comes with a detachable shoulder strap and several pockets on its front, back, and interior.

How Was the Global Supply Chain Telephone Bag Made?
True to the ethos of the New York-based collective, the bag serves as a commentary on consumerism within the fashion industry. While brands like Prada and Hermès revel in craftsmanship, the bag takes on mass labor by tapping four factories across the globe for its design process.
Like a game of telephone, MSCHF co-chief creative officers Kevin Wiesner and Lukas Bentel sent “intentionally vague instructions” to leather-working factories. First, MSCHF approached a factory in Peru to make a Birkin “knockoff,” which resulted in the first prototype.

Next, the collective asked a factory in Portugal to mash it up with the Celine Luggage, making the second prototype that bears the Birkin silhouette with the Celine it bag.

As the third layer, MSCHF tapped a factory in India to combine the bag with the Dior Saddle, resulting in its curved third prototype.

Packing a punch for the final addition, they asked a factory in China to merge it with the Balenciaga Hourglass. The result? A hodgepodge handbag with the words “Designed In: United States, Peru, Portugal, India, and China” debossed on its form.

How Much Does the Global Supply Chain Telephone Bag Cost?
According to MSCHF, the experimental bag will be available to buy on February 21. Interested buyers will have to shell out $650 or approximately P36,300—and yes, that's less than the price of most of the bags it’s inspired by.
