For any pageant hopeful, choosing the right evening gown can be the make-it or break-it moment towards winning the crown. For our Miss Earth 2023 delegate Yllana Aduana, sending an impactful message about our duty to Mother Nature was a big factor in choosing her frock for the preliminaries.
LOOK: Miss Earth Philippines 2023 Yllana Aduana's Preliminary Evening Gown
At first glance, Yllana is donning a figure-skimming cobalt blue number that featured a sheer panel by her abs and a sweetheart neckline. Upon closer inspection, one will notice that metal zippers are actually lining her dress! Designed by Ken Batino and Jevin Salaysay, the zippers were used to create intricate patterns all the way from the bust and down to the skirt. Genius!
The designers explain that the piece represents "healing the Earth by closing the gap between actions and plans." They explain that the upcycled zippers were meant to symbolize how society can collectively put into action our promises of environmental stewardship. In their words, "It takes more than just [one] woman to achieve a lasting balance and sustainability on this Earth."
Now that's what you call beauty with a purpose! So, so gorgeous, Yllana!
