The fashion scene is awash with nostalgia, and it’s bringing back all our girlhood favorites. Notice the resurgence of bow-adorned, lace-trimmed baby dresses, charm bracelets, and toy accessories. Even big-name designers are jumping on the nostalgia bandwagon, too, teaming up with beloved childhood characters and games—think Loewe’s collaboration with Studio Ghibli or Fendi’s Pokémon prints.
Now, another childhood icon is making waves: Meet Miffy, the poker-faced cartoon bunny. She’s been all over our Pinterest boards and Instagram feeds as of late, gracing the outfits of fashion girls everywhere—and chances are, you’ve seen her, too.
Miffy, the Dutch cartoon rabbit, is not just a kid's favorite anymore; she’s capturing the hearts (and wardrobes) of the adult fashion folk.
What Is Miffy?
Miffy, a little Dutch girl bunny (known also as "nijntje"), was created in 1955 by Dick Bruna. Inspired by bedtime stories Bruna told his son Sierk about a white bunny seen during a holiday in Egmond aan Zee, Miffy initially appeared like a fluffy toy with floppy ears. In 1963, Bruna refined Miffy's design for her first book, giving her a distinctive look with pointy ears, chubby cheeks, and a confident gaze from her little black eyes. Bruna chose to dress Miffy in a little dress, solidifying her identity as a girl bunny.

Although Miffy was once a beloved figure primarily in Europe and parts of Asia, especially in Japan, her popularity has now spread worldwide. Today, Miffy is gradually becoming a cultural phenomenon, appearing on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, dangling from keychains and featured as large floor lamps. She's also a favorite on Pinterest, adorning nail art, phone cases, and bedrooms as plush toys. The Miffy craze has soared in recent years, with Google searches increasing by 210% since 2022. On TikTok, the hashtag #Miffy has amassed over 400 million views.
Remarkably, this surge in Miffy's popularity isn’t being driven by children but by nostalgic adults, especially women, who are making her a trendy fashion accessory. While Miffy collaborations began with children's clothing brands, 2023—being the Year of the Rabbit—saw major brands like Mulberry and Tommy Hilfiger releasing limited-edition Miffy collections.

Those who missed these special collections are finding creative ways to include Miffy in their outfits. In the Philippines, Miffy can be seen adorning the bags of prominent fashion influencers, seamlessly integrating into their everyday styles.
Ahead, we feature local trendsetters who are incorporating Miffy into their outfits, highlighting the bunny's transformation from a children’s cartoon into a global fashion icon.
