History has just been made in tinseltown. At the 2023 Academy Awards held earlier today, March 13, Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh took home the Best Actress in a Leading Role trophy for her awe-inspiring performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. This marks the first time an Asian performer became victorious in this category, and only the second instance that a person of color won since Halle Berry in 2002.
Halle was right there on stage to hand Michelle the award, which she graciously received in an ethereal white gown by Dior.

Dressed by Jordan Johnson Chung, Michelle was swathed in soft layers of white tulle and feathers. The haute couture piece by the French luxury house featured a sweetheart neckline and a frothy floor-grazing skirt. Worn with it were a slew of bedazzling white gold jewelry and a chic timepiece on the actress' wrist.
Her acceptance speech will be echoed in centuries to come. "For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that dreams do come true," Michelle said.
"Ladies, don't let anyone tell you [that] you are past your prime," she added. "Never give up."
Prior to Everything Everywhere All at Once, Michelle starred in iconic titles such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Tai Chi Master. In case you didn't know, she was also a Bond girl in 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies.
Such a well-deserved win, Michelle! Congratulations!
