Maris Racal has officially arrived at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, where her film Sunshine (2024) is set to compete. The actress touched down in Germany on February 13, sharing her excitement on Instagram with a candid airport photo captioned, “This is crazy.”

A day later, she graced the red carpet in a breathtaking ensemble designed by Filipino designer Jot Losa.

Braving the country’s chilly weather, Maris, who was styled by Adrianne Concepcion, stunned at the festival’s opening night in a dreamy pastel green backless gown by Filipino designer Jot Losa. The ethereal piece, with its flowing silhouette and intricate garland neckline, pays homage to the sampaguita—the Philippines’ national flower.
"Maris wanted to wear a dress that is an ode to her Filipino roots. Something modern but with a distinct local flair, so we collaborated with designer Jot Losa who is known for her use of traditional materials, and incorporating them into innovative designs," said Adrianne. "It’s modern and sexy, but with an artistic Filipino punctuation," she added.

For her beauty look, crafted by makeup artist Paul Unating, she kept it effortlessly summery and fresh, highlighting her dewy, sun-kissed skin. Hairstylist Valerie Corpuz completed the look with a chic yet relaxed low bun, adding to the effortless elegance.

What is Berlinale?
Berlinale, known for celebrating global storytelling, is running for 10 days from February 13-23, showcasing an impressive lineup of films and TV premieres from around the world.
Sunshine, a 2024 indie sports drama led by Maris follows the journey of a young rhythmic gymnast who dreams of joining the national team—until she discovers she’s pregnant just days before her tryout. The emotional and nuanced story has earned a spot in Berlinale’s Generation 14 category, which highlights compelling narratives for young audiences.
This isn’t Sunshine’s first moment in the spotlight. The film made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last September, where all three screenings sold out—despite being scheduled near the festival’s final days.
