Tailored, edgy, and with a hint of whimsy, KC Pusing's collection showcased sartorial wonder at the recent Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival 2018. Fragments, in a nutshell, mixes utilitarian fashion and silhouettes inspired by Japanese streetwear.
Featuring structured pieces with a play on neutral tones, KC’s runway looks exude a playful take on androgynous fashion with functional details like pockets and aprons reimagined as belt bags. In an interview with Preview, KC shares her inspiration and design process behind the making of Fragments.
How would you describe your design aesthetic and philosophy? Do you have a signature design or key element evident through your collections?
"Clean, easy-to-pair tailored streetwear luxe pieces with playful elements and minimal embellishments. People say I have my own flavor in my aesthetic and normally associated with Asians, but as much as I can, I don’t want to box myself. I want to people to associate my brand as wearable art."
Where do you usually draw inspiration from? Can you walk us through your creative process as you designed your PMFF collection?
"As compared to the previous collections, Fragments is a product out of my comfort zone process. I plan too much whenever I design, but this time, I go with the flow. I love to visit art exhibits and I fell in love with Takahiro Hirabayashi’s Phantom Pain series, but I find it not strong enough yet as the only inspiration, so after months of researching, I started playing Dragon Nest to release stress. But as time [went] by, the thought of having an 'escape' throughout the game, making DeathEaters an extended family, the idea of helping each other kill monsters made me realize, ‘Why not use this as an inspiration?’ I patterned some silhouettes and details from the characters of the game."
Where can we buy your pieces?
"You can contact me through my IG account @kcpusing and set an appointment."
