Lucy Torres-Gomez is a proud outfit-repeater. Unlike other celebrities, she doesn't consider it a major faux pas to be spotted wearing the same outfit twice. "Because clothes are not meant to be disposable," the 47-year-old explained in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
She continued, "If you buy things that are disposable, it means that quality is not good or the cut is not nice. You shouldn’t buy clothes na after isang suot itatapon mo na, kasi nagutay na siya or it doesn’t really fit you."
Lucy said she has always kept a practical mindset when it comes to buying clothes, which is why she often goes for sustainable fashion. "I think it shows how nice a piece of item is, if you can’t let it go. When you see yourself using it many, many times, over and over again. And then, you can just keep on dressing it up or down or changing the accessories."
And for people to maximize their wardrobe, Lucy advises to only get pieces that make them look and feel good. She said, "I think para siyang [clothes] kaibigan. Kilalanin mo yung katawan mo. Dapat malaman mo kung ano yung bagay sa iyo and then dun ka lang maglaro."
Lucy's inclination to sustainable fashion is evident in her latest collection for Kashieca, which debuted on the runway during Bench Fashion Week. She told the press, "If people buy, I would want people to wear it many, many times in many different ways. So it’s a smart buy."
The pandemic played a big role in Lucy's creative process for her collection. She explained, "The fact that we realized we don’t need pala so many things. Kasi during the pandemic, like ako, I can count ontwo hands, the clothes I wore during the entire two years." The result was a collection of classic and wearable designs.
She pointed out, "Dapat talaga when you open your closet, whatever you pick, it will look good on you. Para dressing up is easy daily.
