Catriona Gray has officially started her Miss Universe duties. The beauty queen flew to New York city, where she'll be staying in a shared apartment with Miss USA 2018 Sarah Rose Summers. And as expected, Catriona traveled in style, wearing another piece of our heritage with a modern ensemble.
Cat hits two birds with this outfit. One, she proves that the Barong Tagalog, an item typically worn by gents, can be for everybody, after all. And two, the barong doesn't have to feel costumey, thanks to local designer Jor-El Espina's modern spin to it. Called the bomberong jacket—a coined term from words bomber jacket and barong—the piece makes use of the weaves and embroideries that nod to Filipino roots coupled with the modern structure of a bomber jacket. It is made of pure cotton, which will keep the wearer warm and cozy. A good layering choice for Catriona who's headed to winter weather in the US.
