Several things come to mind when one thinks of Loewe. The zany shoes that have balloons or egg shells for heels? Yes. The woven basket bag that's become a must-have for beach babes everywhere? Indeed. The plain white tank top that has a little anagram stitched upfront? Absolutely.
All of these are hallmark pieces of the Spanish luxury house and are representative of its unique and fresh perspective on fashion. Though, perhaps one of the most iconic originals from the label has got to be the Loewe Puzzle bag. Unassuming at first, the designer arm candy has become synonymous with Loewe since its release almost a decade ago. Ahead, we run down everything you need before purchasing one for yourself. (Spoiler: You definitely should!)
What Is the Loewe Puzzle Bag?
The Puzzle is an origami-inspired piece that offers functionality, personality, and utmost stylishness. It's a roomy carrier that's distinguished by its hemlines that create a geometric pattern, similar to how puzzle pieces converge together on a board. Available in various sizes and colors, it can come as a handbag, a tote bag, a fanny pack, and more.
The History of the Loewe Puzzle Bag
After assuming the seat of creative director in 2013, Jonathan Anderson was tasked with introducing a new model that can become Loewe's next it-bag. The Puzzle made its debut in the brand's S/S 2015 men's collection, and eventually found it's way to the girl's section, too. It's angular silhouette, juxtaposed by its relaxed structure, were indicative that it was a brainchild of Jonathan's, as these were apparent characteristics in pieces from his eponymous label.
Jonathan seeked to find a new way to build a bag, experimenting with its structure and form. "It was about deconstructing a conventional bag to create a flat object with a tridimensional function," he said in an interview.
One can expand the capacity of a Puzzle given it's tender and malleable material. Though, this doesn't sacrifice it's physical integrity, as each one is crafted from premium leather right in Madrid, the birthplace of Loewe. In a way, it's a tribute to how the fashion house started as a company for leather goods.
How Much Is the Loewe Puzzle Bag?
Depending on the style, size, and design you fancy, a Puzzle can cost anywhere from P100,000 to upwards of P200,000. It's most well-known iteration—the cuboid-shaped carrier—can be worn in a total of four ways: as a shoulder bag, a crossbody, a top-handle, or as simple clutch. It comes with strap that can easily be added for convenience. We'd consider that a bang for your buck!
