Nothing is more crucial in the Olympics than precise timekeeping. From the early days of carrying a stopwatch on a bicycle ahead of runners to today’s high-tech motion sensors and photo-finish cameras, timekeeping at the Olympics is an art, much like watchmaking itself. And what better way to commemorate the Philippines’ Olympic anniversary than with a custom Filipino-made watch?

Makina, a Filipino watch brand, has been crafting timepieces with Swiss-made movements and assembling them locally since 2017. Their latest creation is a limited-edition watch commissioned by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) for the 2024 Paris Olympics, celebrating the Philippines' 100th Olympic anniversary.

This exclusive watch, housed in Makina’s popular Uriel case, features a sandwich-style dial with intricate details, including the Philippine flag and Paris Olympics logo. The timepiece captures both the Olympic and Filipino spirit with hands reflecting the colors of our flag, and a "1924-2024" marking, honoring the Philippines’ century-long participation in the Olympics.

Including the 2024 Summer Olympics, Filipino athletes have won a total of 18 Olympic medals to date, with boxing as the top medal-producing sport. On July 26, 2021, the Philippines secured its first gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with Hidilyn Diaz winning the Women's 55 kg Weightlifting event. This year, Carlos Yulo added to the country's triumphs with two more golds in Men’s Floor and Men’s Vault gymnastics events, making this 100th Olympic anniversary even more historic.
