The platform's ability to tailor your feed to your every interest coupled with Gen Z's knack for absorbing and reproducing information as quickly as it flashes across their screens, has given rise to trends like coquette, balletcore, blokecore, and countless other "cores." The newest addition to the TikTok fashion lexicon? None other than Kitchie Nadal-core.
What is Kitchie Nadal-Core?
This nostalgia-filled trend takes its name from female OPM icon Kitchie Nadal, celebrated for classics such as “Huwag na Huwag Mong Sasabihin,” “Bulong,” and “Same Ground.” With the recent fascination for the Y2K era, Kitchie's popularity during the late '90s to the early 2000s has emerged once more, as members of local Gen Z TikTok fashion communities find themselves drawn not only to her music, but also to her style.
With a look back at some of Kitchie Nadal’s music videos and concerts, it’s clear that her sartorial choices were heavily influenced by both the local alt-rock scene and the fashion trends of her time. She particularly loved donning graphic tees, layered tank tops, tube tops, boho-style tops, boots, and dresses worn over denim jeans (bonus points if they were low-waisted, skinny, and flared!).
