Just like in real life, luxury watches in K-dramas are a status symbol. Chaebol characters are often spotted with a snazzy timepiece on their wrist to signify their wealthy upbringing, while characters who rose to the top wear these watches to indicate how far they’ve come in life.
It’s a perfect case for Love Next Door’s Choi Seung-hyo, Jung Hae In’s character who grew up to be a hotshot architect. His particular wristwatch plays an important part in one episode’s plot point, but there’s more to the timepiece than what Seung-hyo claims—at least in real life!

In Love Next Door, the story centers on Seung-hyo (Jung Hae In) and Baek Seok-ryu (Jung So Min), childhood friends who cross paths again in adulthood. The drama’s sixth episode highlights a moment when Seok-ryu’s father, who owns a restaurant, encounters a problem with two guests who claim to be vloggers, who stated that they found a hair strand in their dish.

As Seok-ryu approached them to inspect, one of the guests complained that he had clipped his wristwatch in the process. The guest then demanded compensation, saying that the watch cost 30 million Korean won.

Seok-ryu’s worried father began to make ends meet to pay for the luxury watch and the supposed damages, but Seung-hyo began to investigate the issue himself. Later on, the architect met with the guests, where he discovered they were scammers all along–the two had planted the food themselves, and the watch was actually a knockoff! In his smug yet cool fashion, Seung-hyo pointed out that he had the exact same watch, although the one on his wrist was a genuine piece.

SHOP: Jung Hae In’s Luxury Watch in “Love Next Door”
In the scene, Seung-hyo reveals his watch by stating that it was from a brand called “Audemars Constantine Philip Mills.” In real life, no such watch brand exists, since the name is actually the amalgamation of the popular luxury labels Audemars Piguet, Philip Stein, and Richard Mille. The exact watch isn't from any of these labels either, as it’s courtesy of another name in luxury jewelry–Bulgari!

Seung-hyo donned the Octo Finissimo, dubbed “the world’s slimmest self-winding watch.” The chronograph piece, which is crafted in Switzerland, features a satin-polished stainless steel bracelet with a stunning blue dial, silver counters, and polished finishes.
In the Philippines, the Octo Finissimo comes with a price tag of P1,065,000 or approximately 25,427,000 Korean won, a figure less than the 30 million tag that the drama claims. Still, with its no-nonsense functionality and sleek sophistication, the watch is a sure fit for a professional stature like Seung-hyo’s!
