The world of modeling is often populated by glamazons with luscious locks and vampy makeup to match. But in this day and age, individuals rise to the challenge of shaking up the industry's standards, making it more inclusive and diverse. 

A prime example in the Filipino scene is Halle Berry Gomez, a runway model who's been diagnosed with alopecia. The 18-year-old views the diagnosis as less of a hindrance and more of a way for her to stand out on the catwalk. For someone whose career is only getting started, she proves to be a great representative of a new age of models who are owning their space.

How did you get your start in the modeling industry? Tell us the story of how you got “discovered.”

"I am forever grateful to tito Peter Rian Casidsid and Bryan Briones for helping me find my potential and giving me the chance to participate in several photoshoots. After Bryan shared my photos, they became immensely popular around Aklan."

What do you love the most about being a model? Would you say being a model is your dream job?

"The opportunity to work with inspiring individuals is a dream come true, and I believe modeling is the ultimate career path for me."

What was the biggest struggle you’ve faced in the modeling industry? Did you ever feel like being diagnosed with alopecia hindered you from pursuing it?

"Perhaps the greatest challenge I have encountered is the feeling of being less experienced than my peers. However, I embrace the journey ahead and acknowledge that I still have much to learn."

"Interestingly, my alopecia has never been a hindrance to my career. On the contrary, it has set me apart, and I view it as a unique characteristic that makes me stand out from the crowd."

What would you say is the most memorable project you’ve done as a model so far?

"Of all the projects I’ve worked on, BYS Fashion Week 2023 stands out the most. I had the pleasure of walking alongside Nadine Lustre, James Reid, Mimiyuuuh, and other talented models. I was thrilled to walk for RAFA WORLDWIDE, but my favorite part of the job is always working alongside people I admire and look up to."

How do you see your career progressing in the future? Do you have a dream modeling gig?

"As an aspiring fashionista, my ultimate goal is to participate in international fashion shows and to have my work featured in magazines or articles. I know it sounds ambitious, but who knows what the future holds?"

What’s your go-to model-off-duty look?

"On most days, I opt for a low-maintenance outfit that’s still stylish. A skirt, a comfy pair of boots, and a cute baby tee are my go-to items. This style is perfect for those off-duty days when you want to look effortlessly put-together."

In your personal opinion, what are the characteristics of a great model?

"Confidence, professionalism, determination, and appearance are not the only factors that contribute to an individual’s success. Rather, it is the positive attitude one reflects that truly makes a difference."

What’s your message for people who are also diagnosed with alopecia? What’s your advice to them if they would choose to also pursue modeling?

"If you have been diagnosed with alopecia, first and foremost, embrace your uniqueness. View it as an advantage, as it can help you stand out and make a meaningful impact in the modeling industry. Second, have unwavering confidence in yourself."
