Learn a tip or two for your next winter holiday!

Dressing for the cold has never come easy for people who reside near the equator. After all, why bother dreaming of warming up by the roaring fire when you have balmy breezes and sunny skies to wake up to every morning? But for those fortunate few who get to spend their holidays making snow angels and hitting the slopes, they get to enjoy bundling up and staying cozy.

Recently, Gabbi Garcia went on a trip to South Korea and we got to learn a thing or two about dressing for the cold. Below, we break down her OOTDs to share a few styling tricks for dressing for the winter. Keep scrolling!

1. Incorporate cropped pieces.

When the idea of winter dressing pops up, one doesn't usually think to include a cropped top in the rotation. But as Gabbi Garcia demonstrates, a cropped piece does have its place during the winter. Her cropped puffer vest serves as a way to lengthen her legs and cinch her waist because it ends just where her trousers begin. You can use the same styling trick with most of your cropped tops (both sleeved and sleeveless) to achieve different looks, too.

2. A monochromatic look is the easiest way to look put together.

Gabbi's outfit looks super coordinated and well-thought of, but she's actually wearing a really comfy cream-colored sweat suit underneath her trench. She was able to elevate a very casual sneakers and sweat suit combo in two ways: First, she threw on a dressier coat to help add polish to her 'fit. And, second, she kept the colors of her outfit in the same family to help make the look more cohesive.

3. To dress warmly without adding bulk, dress in thin layers.

As Gabbi demonstrates here, she uses the different layers of her outfit to make it visually interesting. Her base layer is a white turtleneck layered under a gray cardigan, and she tucked it into a pleated midi. On top of that, she has on an archival coat from Rick Owens that skims the body. Even if she's wearing multiple garments, she doesn't look like she's drowning in fabric because she's opted for close-fitting layers.
