Taking "woke up like this" to a whole different level.

The contemporary style scene has been feeling a bit nostalgic lately. We've all been immersed in the kitschy sensibilites of the Y2K resurgence, with mini-skirts and baby tees having become closet mainstays. Slightly surrealistic cartoon-inspired pieces have also become recurring characters in our wardrobes and Instagram feeds, with pieces like MSCHF's big red boots having caused a frenzy.

Locally, something that transports us back to the good o'le days is a striped and floral print bed sheet or blanket. We're of course pertaining to the "pambansang kumot" that most Filipinos have likely grown up sleeping with. Originally a print borrowed from the Malaysian batik, this motif has now found its way to the collections of local designers. At once chic and nostalgic, and maybe even a little bit cozy, kumot-inspired pieces are now all the rage.
