It’s rare to find someone who knew exactly where they wanted their life to go in their youth, but even during his middle school years, Jorem Biadoma already knew he wanted to be in the creative field. “I remembered during my middle school days that my seatmate and I were having this design illustration showdown and [we would] showcase them to everyone in [the] class and ask them whose work is more attractive,” he shared. Despite this, Jorem tells Preview that fashion design wasn’t his first choice going into college. He knew, however, that his artistry would translate well into a textile medium, and he eventually graduated with a degree in fashion design and merchandising from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

One thing Jorem was adamant about not becoming was a gown designer. "Before I got into fashion, I knew I wasn't a gown designer, which is a stereotype in our society when people hear the term "designer." And, as evidenced by his avant-garde designs, his creations are far from a fancy evening gown. Instead, we see pieces that are both minimalist and dramatic, and that come in a variety of neutral shades. "My creative process is very spontaneous," he says, "My goal is to innovate the conventionality of Filipino contemporary design and to translate wearability into works of art in my own unconventional 'underground' capacity," he adds.
Jorem has found success with his line of slow fashion pieces that are all handmade since carving out his niche, with celebrities like Mimiyuuuh even sporting his creations.
While he is aware that most designers who thrive in the country work in areas of fashion that he is not interested in, this does not deter him from creating what he desires. “I believe that every Filipino designer has the ability to go out there if we don’t just focus on salability," he adds. That is why, when it comes to making his creations, his north star is to always stick to his brand's house codes.
Knowing how competitive the industry is, Jorem tries to impart practical advice to anyone looking to enter the same field as him. “Keep on conceptualizing. Don’t let the hindrances invalidate your small successes.”
