Barbie is officially painting the world pink! The iconic doll takes many forms in the live-action movie, and one of them is a Supreme Court Justice brought to life by Ana Cruz Kayne. The actress, who, in case you didn't know, is Filipina-American, has made it a point to wear her heritage on her sleeves—literally! A snapshot from the much-anticipated movie reveals that her character wears a terno dress in one scene!
LOOK: Ana Cruz Kayne Wears a Filipiniana in the Barbie Movie
In an interview, Ana reveals that costume designer Jacqueline Durran came up with the Filipiniana-inspired piece for her to wear as Barbie. The actress says that it was a way for her to "[honor] her family," and that it was actually her favorite look from the whole movie.
Netizens were quick to point out the butterfly sleeves in her look, and expressed their pride in seeing their national garb on such a big screen. "Thank you for representing!" one user commented.
Ana's consistently been representing Filipinos at the red carpet events of Barbie. At the film's world premiere in Hollywood, she wore a regal balintawak piece by local designer Dennis Lustico.
Just recently in London, she rocked another one of the Filipino designer's creations. Pink, proud, and Pinay!
Thanks for repping the Filipina Barbies, Ana!
