The first-ever fashion week—called “Press Week”—was held in New York City in 1943. Back then, its sole purpose was to help young American designers receive international press during World War II when industry insiders weren’t able to travel to Paris. From shows being held at Bryant Park, to the Lincoln Center, and eventually at grandiose venues in Manhattan, the iconic event has gone through a lot of changes through the decades.
With technological advancements in the mix, however, the world of fashion is about to enter a brand new chapter with the announcement of the first-ever AI Fashion Week!
Now, the concept of artificial intelligence isn’t exactly new to us, but we have yet to find out how it can contribute to the world of fashion. According to NYC-based AI Studio Maison Meta, however, the event aims to “push the boundaries of what’s possible in fashion with the use of AI.”
What We Know About the First AI Fashion Week
The AI Fashion Week will occur both online and in person on April 20 to 21, 2023 at Spring Studios in New York City. Aspiring AI designers can submit their unique and creative collections, to be evaluated by their followers and viewers through online voting. Participants can have fun with their runway decor and include models of diverse ethnicities and sizes to showcase their designs. The top 10 finalists will then be judged by a panel of industry experts during Fashion Week!
Only three winners will be selected, and they’ll be given the opportunity to have their collections brought to life and sold with the help of fashion retailer Revolve.
