Have you strolled around the mall lately and noticed random people with yellow rubber duckies above their heads? We won't blame you if you suddenly start looking for a hidden camera thinking that someone might be playing a prank on you. But just so you know, you're not imagining things—the duck hair clip is the latest (and perhaps most ridiculous) fashion trend that we didn't see coming.

Duck Hair Clip Trend, Explained

As with most trends recently, head over to TikTok to find all the proof you'll need. Many netizens took to the social media platform to compile video clips of people they've spotted wearing duck hair clips, and they're everywhere! One user's office was even practically invaded by these yellow birds.

There's no clear explanation as to where the trend spawned from. Runway-wise, the closest possible reference would be Daniel Lee's debut collection for Burberry, prominently featuring ducks on its original prints for the Fall 2023 show, as well as sending down a male model wearing a hand-crocheted wool duck beanie. The house's new creative director calls it "very British." Still, there's no direct high fashion correlation to the viral hair clips, so this might be pushing things too far.

Tracing the roots of the trend though, at least locally, it seems like the duck phenomenon had originated from Baguio, where vendors peddled the accessory along with other quirky designs in public market stalls. The fad has since trickled down to the metropolis, and now here we are asking the same question in unison: "May bibe na ba ang lahat?" LOL!

Netizens React to the Duck Hair Clip Trend

Don't worry, you're not the only one wondering what the duck is happening. The internet is still quite confused, with many netizens flooding X and demanding for a logical explanation. One user tweeted, "What's with the sudden prevalence of rubber ducky hair pieces sa Divisoria? Bakit bibe?"

While many are finding the trend rather silly, there's still an overwhelmingly high number of people wanting to jump on the yellow duck bandwagon. They're "so cute," they'd argue. Fashion is meant to be fun, after all, so you do you!

Where to Buy the Viral Duck Hair Clip?

The good news is you won't have to travel all the way to Baguio to hop on the trend. The duck hair clips are widely sold in Divisoria, Binondo, Quiapo, and other tiangge stalls in the malls for around P50 each. But if you're having a hard time finding one, ordering online via Lazada or Shopee is always an option nowadays.
