The Reina Hispanoamericana 2025 competition is well underway in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Waving our flag at the cross-national pageant is Dia Mate of Cavite, who previously competed in Miss World Philippines 2024 and Miss Universe Philippines 2024.

The contest just held its national costume segment, where candidates sauntered down the stage in ensembles that showcased the best of their heritage and culture. Dia tapped Filipino designer Ehrran Montoya for her entry and looked nothing short of breath-taking.

Referencing various touchpoints of our heritage and traditions, the costume was an over-the-top Filipiniana made out of local textiles. In an Instagram post, Ehrran details that 150,000 crystals were used to mimic the stained glass windows found in baroque churches from all over the Philippines. Each embellished panel was rendered in hues of red, white, and blue, which hark back to our flag.

The nation's roots in indigenous artistry were also incorporated through the utilization of gold Mindanaoan Okkir patterns. To pay tribute to our dutiful farmers, Dia wore the dress with a salakot-inspired headpiece.

During her presentation, the delegate walked holding a feather pen in one hand, and a traditional lamp in the other. These accessories were meant to "celebrate the muses of Filipino poetry." Lastly, the cumbersome train of the garment was intricately crafted out of rattan, which symbolizes the artisanal skill ingrained in each Pinoy.
