Coperni continues to up the ante with its newest iteraton of the Swipe bag. After releasing versions fashioned out of glass and stone, the it-bag gets a breezy makeover—literally! Ladies and gents, meet the Air Swipe.
LOOK: Coperni's New "Air Swipe" Bag
Under the supervision of the brand's co-founders Sebastian Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, Dr. Ionnis Michaloudis of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed a Swipe bag made out of silica aerogel. The nanomaterial substance, claimed to be "the lightest solid on planet Earth," is used by NASA to capture stardust due to its immense capability to withstand heat and pressure. That means that the bag is composed of 99 percent "pure nothing" (a.k.a air) and one percent glass.

Weighing only 33 grams with 27cm x 16cm dimensions, the Air Swipe is still the largest object ever made from silica aerogel. Despite its appearance, Coperni claims that it can actually serve its function as a bag and carry contents as heavy as an iPhone. The piece was officially introduced to the fashion world at the house's F/W 2024 presentation at Paris Fashion Week. We have to give props to the model for clutching such a delicate item with poise!
Internet Reactions to Coperni's "Air Swipe" Bag
Naturally, the internet was in awe of such a feat. Coperni has always positioned itself as an intersection of technology and fashion, and the Air Swipe definitely represents that dedication.

Science and fashion girlies alike have gone gaga over the tote. One user wittily gave the fashion house a new name: "Cop-air-ni."

With Avatar: The Last Airbender hype being real over the past few days, we could assume that Aang would also be a fan of the Air Swipe. We wonder what element Coperni will use (or should we say, bend) next?

Overall, fashion enthusiasts everywhere are incredibly impressed with the engineering that went into the cloud-like Swipe. "Who knew accessories could double as conversation starters and possibly future antiques?" one user wrote.

Hats off to you, Coperni! Would you consider buying the Air Swipe?
