Filipino designers are increasingly carving out their space in the international fashion arena. Among the rising names is Filipina designer Chynna Mamawal. Following a successful debut at Vancouver Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2023, Chynna has now made her way to New York—the fashion capital of the Americas. Alongside Andrea Tetangco and Adrienne Charuel of Maison Métisse, she showcased her Spring/Summer 2025 collection during the Filipinxt showcase last September 7.

For Chynna, this new collection represents a significant step forward in her six-year career. With this lineup, the young designer steps out of her comfort zone, marking her first foray into Spring/Summer fashion."My strength has always been in Fall and Winter collections, with a focus on beading and all the glitz and glam that comes with those seasons. But, this is my first time creating a Spring/Summer Collection, and it’s been an exhilarating challenge," she shared.
Nonetheless, Chynna remained committed to expanding her creative horizons."For this collection, I really wanted to push my creative boundaries by experimenting with new techniques, shapes, and textures. The entire process was about trying new things and seeing where my creativity could take me," she explained.
Despite stepping out of the design framework she’s grown accustomed to, each piece in the collection was nonetheless affixed with Chynna's signature aesthetic. Rendered in a palette of soft salmon, skin-toned beige, muted pinks, and striking red, the collection featured highly wearable evening wear, all while maintaining its bold yet inherently feminine attitude.
"My designs are elegant but with a touch of extravagance—I love playing with textures and combining elements to create something that stands out," she said. "I believe that simplicity doesn’t have to mean plain, it can still be impactful and sophisticated.”
The tasteful mix of textures, big silhouettes, and draped detailing was a clear highlight of the collection. A sense of playfulness was woven all throughout while maintaining the elegance that’s characteristic of Chynna’s style. "I wanted to bring the essence of summer to the runway with playful, creative designs that featured bright colors and irregular shapes," she expressed.
