Creative director Eugene David tells Preview about how he and the country’s top creatives managed to pull off this last-minute shoot for the new Miss Universe Philippines titleholder.

Chelsea Manalo turned heads when she was announced as this year’s Miss Universe Philippines — and her first-ever photoshoot in her crown proves that she is every inch worthy of the title.

While the Bulacan stunner made headlines and viral posts upon the announcement of her win, her photoshoot at PioneerX Studios, directed by Eugene David and photographed by Dookie Ducay, practically sealed the deal.

Chelsea looked queenly in a white gown pulled from the archives of Jot Losa, an exquisite serpentine gown with intricate appliqués and fringes at the bottom that provided the dress with texture and detail.

Mickey See brought radiance and timeless glamour to Chelsea’s face with a glowing bronze look. Meanwhile, hairstylist Jerry Buan Javier pulled Chelsea’s locks in a neat updo, while Perry Tabora styled her with golden drop statement earrings that perfectly paired her crown, giving her a striking and regal appearance.

And did you know that this shoot was pulled off only in a matter of hours past midnight?

“We pulled off an impromptu shoot with Chelsea! Reached out to designers at 10pm, started shooting at 3am, and finished by 6am. The vibe was amazing and everyone was super game,” Dookie wrote on Instagram stories.

Eugene tells Preview more about how they pulled off the last-minute shoot together — amassing a team of top creatives for the newly minted beauty queen in just a matter of hours.

“The day before the shoot, we had another shoot at PioneerX Studios that ended late. So when we were told that Chelsea will pass by the studio past midnight to do her glam before her first TV guesting as Miss Universe Philippines 2024, we had this crazy idea to do a quick shoot with her wearing the crown,” he shares.

“From photographer, makeup artist, hairstylist, fashion stylist, set designer, to the video team—everyone was so game! We then reached out to designers and just worked with whatever they brought to the studio. Jot Losa had this white archival piece with appliqués that resemble the crown, and I knew it was the one. Surely, the gown fit Chelsea like a glove, she looked radiant in it! And directing her felt like I was looking at the next Miss Universe! That shoot was one for the books,” Eugene adds.

There is no doubt that Chelsea looks regal. And if this is what she's serving just after her win, we’re looking forward to seeing more of her before the big Miss Universe competition.
