Preview Exclusive: Cath Sobrevega Talks About Her Beautiful Manila-Inspired Wedding Dresses
The Dresses
For her special day, Cath worked closely with her teams to create three different bridal customs, each one inspired by the culture and heritage of Manila. (In case you didn't know, aside from styling, Cath helms other businesses, including Barò Label, Namì Jewelry, and flowers by Cath Shop.) She shared her vision for her wedding dresses, saying, "I wanted something easy and comfortable because I really planned to be partying and mingling with all of our guests from the cocktails until the end."
The first of Cath's three bridal customs was the Manila Prep Dress, which was made of traditional lace embroidery. Cath wanted to channel Filipina femininity through the soft and ethereal lace, giving the dress a "grounded yet sensual" energy.
The second dress, the Manila Ceremony Dress, was made with fine pearl white silk that was coated with pearl-like beaded fabric. The design style was inspired by Cath's "simplistic yet sensual style and the progressive movement and details made by waves in the oceans."
To balance her gown's graceful flow and ebb, she tempered down her beauty look with classic snatched hair and make up by Robbie Pinera and Raymond Santiago.
The last of Cath's bridal customs was the Manila After Party Dress, which was inspired by the national flower of the Philippines, the sampaguita. The dress was literally blooming with delicate embellishments that softened the bodice bone-structure rendered in the shape of the flower. She completed this fun look with Love Rocks Jewelry's big diamond hoop earrings and Jimmy Choo's Crystal Anklet Pumps for that "extra glitter."
The Design Process
When asked about her design process, Cath shared that it was easier to conceptualize her own dress because she knew exactly what she wanted. While she didn't grow up having a "dream wedding gown," she made sure to try out dresses to find the cut that suits her body best. This became her jumping point in coming up with outfits that looked and felt flattering.
As if this wasn't impressive enough, she did all this while balancing wedding planning duties and producing her friends and family's outfits, including her husband's tux. "It got actually pretty stressful because of all the people I had to dress up and style, but it was very fulfilling in the end. I was the happiest seeing all the hard work paid off," she said.
Cath's Tip for Brides
Cath also shared her styling tips for brides, saying, "Just stay true to your personal style. Your wedding dress should be a reflection of your style and taste. If you are confident and comfortable with what you’re wearing, it will definitely show in all your wedding photos."
