The term “timeless” is often thrown around these days, becoming a buzzword to lure consumers into the latest trends. But truly, only a few things genuinely deserve the label. One accessory that undeniably fits the bill is the Cartier Love bracelet.
Since its introduction in 1969, the Love bracelet has transformed our perception of jewelry. Rather than being reserved for special occasions, it was designed to be worn day and night (given that it's literally screwed shut onto the wearer's wrist.) Over the decades, it has remained a coveted piece, adorning the wrists of countless A-listers. To this day, it’s still one of the most searched items on Google.
Ahead, we explore the rich history of this iconic piece and uncover what makes it a timeless classic cherished in the world of fashion.
The History of Cartier’s Love Bracelet
Ironically, the Love bracelet was created just after Aldo Cipullo, the genius behind the design, ended a relationship. He wanted to design a piece of jewelry that symbolized true loyalty and couldn’t be easily removed. Inspired by medieval chastity belts and industrial design, Cipullo came up with the Love Bangle, a unisex accessory featuring a unique screw-on mechanism that needed a partner’s help to fasten.

While this all sounds romantic, the screw-on mechanism is also one of the major downsides to owning the bracelet. We might adore the design, but airport security surely doesn’t as it tends to set off the metal detectors and is a pain to take off.

In addition to the screw mechanism, Cipullo chose an oval shape for the bracelet, ensuring a snug fit around the wrist. The visible screws added a distinctive touch, combining functionality with a modern aesthetic.
When Cartier first launched the bracelet, they reportedly gifted pairs to some of the most famous couples of the time, like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. This move helped the Love bracelet become a symbol of high-profile romance.

Today, the Love bracelet remains a favorite, with new versions like diamond-studded designs and different sizes—proving that some things truly are timeless.
How Much Is a Cartier Love Bracelet?
The Love bracelet is available in three beautiful metals: yellow gold, white gold, and rose gold. You can opt for versions with or without diamonds. While it was originally designed as a bangle, it now also comes as a cuff for easier wear and removal (the TSA will thank you for this). It’s available in six sizes and offers customization with engravings. Inspired by the original design, Cartier has expanded the collection to include rings, necklaces, and earrings, each reflecting the bracelet's signature style.

Local Celebrities Wearing the Cartier Love Bracelet
Ahead, see which local personalities, from celebrities to heiresses, are sporting the Cartier icon on their wrists.
1. Heart Evangelista
For the likes of Heart, one bangle is not nearly enough. Which is great for her because these bangles look even more gorgeous stacked. On a single wrist, she has four different Love bangles in a mix of white and rose gold. To make it even more glamorous, each one is paved all around with diamonds. She even has a Juste Un Clou, also designed by Aldo Cipullo, to complete her stack.

2. Sarah Lahbati
For Sarah Lahbati, the Love bangle is a mainstay in most, if not all, of her outfits. A classic herself, she prefers the original Love in 18k yellow gold. She also loves to stack this with other classics such as the Tiffany & Co. Wire bracelet and a tennis bracelet. (Peep the Juste Un Clou on her other hand!)

3. Allison Laude
Much like her mom, Allison Laude has a taste for the finer things in life. She's always spotted wearing iconic jewelry such as Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra, and of course Cartier's Love. She even has the rings!

4. Rocio Zobel
Zobel heiress, Rocio, is another fan of Cartier's Love bangles, she practically wears them everywhere—even to the beach. Here she stacks the classic Love bangle with a smaller model and an Écrou de Cartier bracelet which was inspired by Aldo Cipullo's '70s creations.
