BYS Cosmetics culminated their 10th year in the biz by staging their first-ever fashion week! The three-day event had talented local designers showing off their stunning creations on the runway. Below, we round up our fave looks from each designers that you'll want to cop yourself.
LOOK: All the Designers That Showed on the Runway of BYS Fashion Week 2022
1. Russel Villafuerte
Kicking off BYS Fashion week was none other than Russell Villafuerte and his eclectic designs. Being a designer who advocates for sustainable fashion, his collection is made out of 100% upcycled materials. He showcased just how stylish sustainability can be through his creative patchwork pieces that boasted of various silhouettes. Russell’s collection highlighted oversized cuts, corset-style tops (that are made out of old shoes, mind you!), and wild prints.
2. Randolf
RJ Santos of Randolf reveals that “the collection is about the transition from feeling lost to being content and at peace with reality and trying to move forward.” Unique pieces made out of tulle, two-toned denim looks, and sheer pieces with embroidery and cutout appliqués paraded down the runway to an awestruck crowd. One common motif present throughout most of the collection were dreamy cloud prints and the anatomical heart and skulls which are the brand’s signature.
3. Cheetah Rivera
Cheetah Rivera’s pastel pieces punctuated with golden looks during BYS Fashion Week were something straight out of a fairytale. The designer’s collection, called “The Dance of the Butterflies,” took inspiration from Cicely Mary Barker’s enchanting world of flower fairies and magic. And as its name suggests, the models donned sheer flowy fabrics that fluttered with each step, and nature-inspired themes in the form of floral patterns and embellishments were observed in her elegant evening looks.
4. Jaz Cerezo
Closing the first day of BYS Fashion week was Jaz Cerezo. The designer reveals that her collection was inspired by Michaelangelo’s painting at the Sistine Chapel, "The Original Sin and The Expulsion from Paradise." And true enough, a pervasive feature throughout her pieces was reptilian themes in the form of snakeskin patterns and snake embellishments.
5. Kaye Morales
Kaye Morales sends a powerful message with her collection in BYS Fashion Week and it’s that she understands one’s struggles because she carries them herself. Starting off with black pieces made of leather and heavily embellished with studs and chains, these represent how one seems bonded to our traumas, yet at the same time us breaking away from them. As the show progressed, we saw printed pieces with disorders written all over them and punctuated with splashes of red. It then transitioned to lighter pieces made out of denim—still with metallic chains but now bedecked with sequins and studs.
6. Bonita
Bonita’s show is better described as a party with giant disco balls, funky lights, and DJ Christi Mcgarry playing a live set. Her collection mirrored the setting with her signature sparkly creations gracing the runway. Besides her iridescent pieces, the designer showed a number of her swoon-worthy corsets along with floor-grazing gowns in dark denim and velvet. Of course, it isn’t Bonita if there isn’t a touch of sultriness and she injected this by way of ultra-sheer fabrics and revealing silhouettes that highlighted the diverse figures of her models.
7. ISSA
Issa Pressman extends her creative liberties to the latest collection of her namesake label. Made for the modern woman, in accordance to the Skin by BYS theme, ISSA’s catalogue was a treasure trove of hubadera resort-wear and tropic-inspired patterns.
8. Thian Rodriguez
As expected from them, Thian Rodriguez’s newest showcase turned its head away from minimalism and imbued a touch of edge to avant garde ensembles. Silver hardware, larger than life silhouettes, and Nadine Lustre herself sashayed down the catwalk.
9. Cruz MNL
Cropped and oversized cuts, luxe texture play, and an undeniably cool vibe all meshed together for Cruz MNL’s debut collection at BYS Fashion Week. Picture the freshest clique strutting down the neon-lit streets of Manila and they’d definitely be donning this designer’s lookbook.
