Bulgari has long been celebrated for its exquisite line of high jewelry. The Roman jeweler is synonymous with its iconic Serpenti pieces, from necklaces to watches, as well as intricate accessories. But beyond its jewelry, the luxury label also offers an impressive arsenal of leather handbags. From classic matelassé leather to crystal-encrusted top handles, Bulgari’s bags are heirloom-worthy pieces designed to stand the test of time.
Most recently, on September 30 during Paris Fashion Week, Bulgari unveiled its latest line of leather goods and accessories. Titled the “Calla” collection, this five-piece offering marks Greek designer Mary Katrantzou’s debut as the brand’s creative director for leather goods and accessories.

For her inaugural collection, Mary Katrantzou drew inspiration from the “Calla” motif, derived from the mosaics of the ancient Terme di Caracalla (Baths of Caracalla) in Rome. Built around 212 AD, the Baths was once a social hub in Roman society and is now considered one of the seven wonders of the world for its antiquity. "The motif, a sensuously curving fan, has a compelling femininity and universality, connecting with other cultures, other meanings," Mary explains in a press statement. "It links with the gingko leaf and with the calla lily—the ‘Calla’ has infinite interpretations—but 'all roads lead to'...BVLGARI.”
The mosaic floors of the Terme di Caracalla are known for their fan-shaped polychrome designs, crafted in rich, jewel-like tones of pearl, amethyst, emerald, and gold. Today, this fan-shaped motif has transcended across cultures, echoing through the ages in the form of the gingko leaf, which symbolizes strength and resilience, and the sculptural calla lily, a Greek emblem of purity and rebirth.

For her inaugural collection at Bulgari, Mary Katrantzou harmonizes the house's design codes with the ancient "Calla" motif, executed through matelassé leather treatments and pavé crystal embellishments. Her debut collection features a five-piece lineup: the Serpenti Sugarloaf, the Serpentine Duo, the Marquise, the Gingko clutch, and the Calla evening clutch.
The Serpenti Sugarloaf
The Serpenti Sugarloaf takes inspiration from Bulgari’s signature high-domed cabochon cut. Its padded, voluminous structure is crafted from matelassé leather by artisans at the maison’s historically-renowned leather atelier in Florence.
The Serpentine Duo
The trapeze-shaped Serpentine Duo features a forged metal handle adorned with two sculpted Serpenti heads. Drawing from the faceted cuts of Bulgari’s precious gemstones, this bag serves as a wearable piece of art. The daytime version comes in luxurious matelassé leather, while the evening option dazzles with hand-set crystals.
The Marquise
Mary Katrantzou’s architectural influence shines through in the Marquise, a domed top-handle bag named after the elegantly pointed marquise diamond cut. The bag’s design echoes the curves of the “Calla” motif in fine nappa leather, rendered in a palette of tonal hues and vibrant contrasts.
The Gingko Clutch
Inspired by the distinct curvature of the “Calla” motif, the fan-shaped Gingko Clutch is both functional and chic. Suspended from a supple leather bracelet, the clutch is crafted from soft nappa leather and features pavé crystals on sculpted metal, making it an elegant statement piece to complement your day-to-night outings.
The Calla Evening Clutch
