If the traditional bridal gown doesn't feel quite "you," a suit might be your best bet.

Even with traditions as time-honored as weddings, a sense of authenticity always shines through. In the past years, we’ve seen a shift towards personalization on a high, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic that led couples to dial down their weddings and mend traditional celebrations as they saw fit. Indeed, for your special day, you should take the liberty to be as "you" as you’d like to be—personalizing even the most conventional parts, like a wedding dress

Recently, we’ve seen a lot of brides opt out of a traditional long gown in favor of a bridal suit. It’s sharp, modern, and undeniably chic, so there's no wondering why. We love the practicality, too—it’s something you can wear for your special day as is, and for the years beyond as separate pieces. The list of reasons to wear a bridal suit can go on endlessly, yet the best point remains this: you should wear one if it makes you feel like your true and best self on your wedding day. If the traditional dress doesn’t do that for you, then you should allow yourself the pleasure that is a crisp, well-fitting bridal suit.

For future brides who plan to walk down the aisle in a suit, we've reached out to an expert tailor to talk all about it:

Bel Salvosa is from Salvo Tailors, a bespoke suit-making company founded in 2017. They specialize in creating customs suits for men, and more recently, women under their Salvo Women line

According to Bel, a bridal suit should feel true to a woman’s sense of style. "This is all about the bride, thus, we base it from her style and personality," she shares. When you come to Salvo, their master fitter will present you with a "style journal," a type of catalog where you can see the different kinds of suit designs they offer. Then, they’ll show you a few textiles to choose from, a fine selection of Italian pure wool cloth and luxury linen.

5 Ways to Wear a Bridal Suit to Your Wedding

1. Double-Breasted Suit

Each bridal suit Salvo makes is bespoke, so you can customize even their signature silhouettes to your liking. Bel mentions, "suits are versatile, they can play with a variety of colors, different cuts and types of cloth."

One of their most popular styles for women is a dove white double-breasted suit, which features a wide-peak lapel, four front buttons, and high-waisted trousers. Take a look at one iteration of this look below, which was crafted with golden buttons instead of the traditional white.

2. Cropped Blazer with Trousers

For a more off-the-moment style, go for a cropped number in a soft, sand-colored tone. It’s a sexy take on the classic suit, and is perfect for a bride who wants a little bit of edge.

3. Cutout Blazer and Flared Trousers

Believe it or not, it is possible to show skin with a suit. Take a look at this bride, who wore a skin-baring suit for her pre-wedding photos. Her ensemble featured a jacket with a low neckline and side cutouts that trace to the whole back. Paired it with flared trousers, it was the ultimate unconventional bride look! She even took it a step by making her whole bridal entourage wear colored suits.

4. Oversized Suit Jacket

For the woman who still wants to wear a dress, try this sexy take—an oversized suit jacket that’s long enough to be worn without bottoms. The combination of powerful shoulders and a double-breasted closure is a serendipitous match of contemporary and classic. Take a look at Jennylyn Mercado’s bridal look which features this style.

5. White Blazer with Black Bottoms

For a more casual take, glean inspo from Angel Locsin in her civil wedding last year. Instead of wearing a whole suit, just wear the blazer! When layered over a plain top and black jeans, it’s enough to hold that clean and crisp feel. A pair of tailored black trousers work well with this look, too, in case you're after a more formal vibe.
