There's never a shortage of brand new bag releases in the fashion industry. To help you choose, we've compiled the best of this year as well as what we believe may become classics in the long run.
Christian Dior
Saddle Bag, $2350, CHRISTIAN DIOR, dior.com
Christian Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri's reinterpretation of John Galliano's Saddle bag made a triumphant comeback this year, landing on the arms of top influencers, celebrities, and stylish shoppers. If that's not enough to convince you of the lasting power of the almost 20-year-old handbag, then maybe the updated version's addition of a crossbody strap will.
Louis Vuitton
Petite Boite Chapeau, $4200, LOUIS VUITTON, louisvuitton.com
Louis Vuitton's recent collections are, without a doubt, inspired by the brand's history of travel. What makes each piece more modern, however, is its combination with Nicholas Ghesquiere's youthful and edgy vision. This year, the hat box, one of the Maison's heritage pieces, has been redesigned in the style of a stylish, smaller clutch.
Loewe
Gate, $2590, LOEWE, loewe.com
The Gate bag was unveiled at Loewe's spring show this year. It comes in three sizes, and is crafted in soft calfskin. Some of the bag's unique features are a side latched metallic pin and its front flap, that's secured by a knotted belt. The saddle-shaped crossbody makes for the perfect casual, under-the-radar weekend bag.
Valentino
Candystud, $2875, VALENTINO, valentino.com
Valentino has released several chic bags since creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli set foot in the house. However, we're going to go out of a limb and say that the Candystud might just be the brand's most important release so far. It perfectly embodies what Valentino is all about: femininity, glamour, and Italian elegance. The top handle-style is made in supple lambskin leather with the brand's signature combination of stud detailing and rhombus capitonne quilting.
Chloe
Roy, $2173, CHLOE, chloe.com
The Roy is one of the bags to come out of creative director Natacha Ramsay-Levi's debut collection for Chloe. It picks up from the brand's already iconic designs such as the Drew, Faye, and Nile combining femininity with just the right amount of edge. It has all of the characteristics of a typical Chloe bag: clean lines, muted tones, and heavy hardware.
Givenchy
GV3, $1990, GIVENCHY, givenchy.com
When Claire Waight Keller took the reins at Givenchy, one of the first things she did was reintroduce the house's old logo. It comes as no surprise that the iconic double G was also incorporated into her first bag release. The GV3 takes its name from the Maison's landmark address: 3 Avenue George V in Paris. The flap-style bag comes with a removable shoulder strap, three accordion compartments, and two inside flat pockets as well as one on the outside.
Gucci
Ophidia, $1390, GUCCI, gucci.com
If Gucci's Ophidia collection looks familiar, it's because the line is heavily inspired by the house's designs from the 1970s. The collection was featured during the label's resort runway show which also referenced several vintage designs. Crafted in Gucci's unmistakable GG Supreme canvas, this small shoulder variation features a green and red web strip detail and double G charms.
Fendi
Mon Tresor, $1790, FENDI, fendi.com
Fendi's tiny bucket bag, the Mon Tresor, made a strong statement this year. Fastened with a drawstring, the bag is decorated with metal Fendi logos on the side and comes with two detachable shoulder straps making it versatile enough to carry by the hand, over the shoulder, or crossbody. The Mon Tresor comes in several variations: suede, embossed leather, smooth leather, canvas, and even velvet.
J.W. Anderson
Disc, $1455, J.W. ANDERSON, j-w-anderson.com
The Disc bag is undoubtedly the hottest cult accessory this season. Made from suede and leather, the bag's closure is inspired by barbell piercings. It opens up to a two-compartment interior, and as a plus, the strap is detachable to carry the bag as a clutch.
Saint Laurent
Jamie, $2590, SAINT LAURENT, ysl.com
Anthony Vaccarello's latest release under Saint Laurent is the Jamie, a bag that's heavily inspired by the house's archives. The bag is crafted in the Saint Laurent signature carre rive gauche quilted patchwork leather design and is accented by an antiqued gold-tone metal monogram plaque. The Jamie is carried using a chain and leather shoulder strap. Inside, it features a main compartment, grosgrain fabric lining, and a slip pocket.
